Hamid Reza Karimi received the B.Sc. (First Hons.) degree in power systems from the Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 1998, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. (First Hons.) degrees in control systems engineering from the University of Tehran, Tehran, in 2001 and 2005, respectively. He is currently Professor of Applied Mechanics with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Politecnico   di   Milano,  Milan, Italy. From 2009-2016, he has been Professor of Mechatronics-Control Systems at University of Agder, Norway.  
Prof. Karimi’s original research and development achievements span a broad spectrum within the topic of automation, control, and condition monitoring with applications to complex systems such as wind turbines, vehicles, robotics and mechatronics. They made him a leading international expert in this field, having published over 500+ International ISI-Index journal papers, one monograph and 9 edited books. Furthermore, he has obtained several research grants in particular with the Horizon Europe program or industries in the past. 
Prof. Karimi is an ordinary Member of Academia Europa (MAE), Distinguished Fellow of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV), Fellow of The International Society for Condition Monitoring (ISCM), Member of Agder Academy of Science and Letters and also a member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Mechatronic Systems, the IFAC Technical Committee on Robust Control, and the IFAC Technical Committee on Automotive Control. 
Prof. Karimi is the recipient of the 2021 BINDT CM Innovation Award, the 2016-2021 Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering, the 2020 IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Award, August-Wilhelm-Scheer Visiting Professorship Award, JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Research Award, and Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung research Award, for instance. 
Prof. Karimi is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cyber-Physical Systems, Subject Editor, Technical Editor or Associate Editor for  several international  journals and Book Series Editor for Springer, CRC Press and Elsevier. He has served as Guest Editors for more than 30 Special Issues in ISI journals. Prof. Karimi has also participated as General Chair, keynote/plenary speaker, distinguished speaker or program chair for several international conferences in the areas of Control Systems, Robotics and Mechatronics.

Prof. Dr. Chin Kuan Ho is the Vice Chancellor of Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation. He is also a Fellow at the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, China. His research interest includes computational intelligence, machine learning and trustworthy AI. He has over 15 years of experience across various senior leadership positions in academia. 

Over the past 15 years, Dr. Ho has been bringing research into industrial practice. Prof. Ho has experience working with clients from numerous industries and government agencies, where he led the design, development and delivery of solutions spanning the areas of smart services,  IT master planning, network fault analysis, data analytics, policy and regulatory framework for ICT, and talent development. He was the lead trainer for Telekom Malaysia’s data science upskilling program. He was a member of the National Big Data Analytics Taskforce under the auspices of MDEC.

Prof. Ho won the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education in the 2015 Asia’s Education Excellence Award. More recently, he won the Gold Medal and the Semi Grand Prize Winner at the 2020 International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada. Prof. Ho has been acknowledged as an expert in the field of Artificial Intelligence at the 2019 Entrepreneur Summit (Project Technology Roadshow) in Jiaxing, China.

David Camacho is a full professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), and he is the head of the Applied Intelligence and Data Analysis (AIDA: https://aida.etsisi.uam.es) research group at UPM. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2001. He has published more than 300 journals, books, and conference papers. His research interests include: Machine Learning (Clustering/Deep Learning), Computational Intelligence (Evolutionary Computation, Swarm Intelligence), and Social Network Analysis, Fake News and Disinformation Analysis. He has participated/led more than 50 research projects (National and European: H2020, DG Justice, ISFP, and Erasmus+), related to the design and application of artificial intelligence methods for data mining and optimization for problems emerging in industrial scenarios (coal mining, steel), aeronautics, aerospace engineering, cybercrime/cyber intelligence, social networks applications, or video games among others. He is an Associate Editor of several journals, including Information Fusion, Ambient Intelligence & Humanized Computing, Expert Systems, and Cognitive Computation among others.

Jyotika Athavale (2023 President Elect Candidate, IEEE Computer Society) is a Senior IEEE Member, experienced leader and influencer in emerging technologies and international standardization initiatives. She was awarded the IEEE Computer Society Golden Core Award in 2022. Currently an elected member of the Computer Society Board of Governors and Executive Committee, Jyotika also serves as the 2022 Secretary and Distinguished Visitor of the IEEE Computer Society. She chairs the IEEE P2851 Standard on Functional Safety interoperability.

With over 25 years of industry experience, Jyotika is currently a senior technical leader in automotive functional safety at NVIDIA, and is driving capability development, safety architectures and methodologies, system safety engineering activities and pathfinding for safety critical markets such as autonomous driving and avionics. Prior to NVIDIA, she was Principal Engineer at Intel Corporation where she led functional safety platform architecture for Automotive and Avionics use cases and drove Corporate-wide methodologies for radiation effects modeling and product qualification across market segments.


Jyotika is an active member of the IEEE Computer Society Functional Safety Standards Committee, Design Automation Standards Committee and Diversity and Inclusion Committee. In addition, she represents the Computer Society at the IEEE USA AI Policy Committee, IEEE SA Industry Connection Group on Mobility as a Service (MaaS) related standardization activities, the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Committee and the IEEE Systems Council. Last year she also served on the IEEE Computer Society Industry Engagement Committee and Audit Committee.

Outside of IEEE, Jyotika is actively influencing several international standardization initiatives on functional safety with ISO, SAE and UL. She also serves on various technical conference committees, has authored patents and many technical publications in IEEE conferences and journals. She received her MS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1996 from Iowa State University.
